Button Farm 2024 season will run from June 29th-October 26th. We will be open the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 12-3pm. Please check out Calendar of Events details or our Programs & Tours page to book a private visit.

Join CTTT-Montgomery and the Menare Foundation, Inc. at Button Farm for an afternoon of food, fun and networking as we explore the beautiful and scenic grounds (the Commons, Museum Garden, Animal Pens, Historic Outbuildings and Slave Cemetery) while connecting with local CTTT members, family, and friends.

Our Supporters

The Button Farm Living History Center programs provide hands-on history educational activities for public and private K-12 students, home school, community groups, universities, educators, corporations and the general public. Programs focus on history, agriculture, environment and sustainability. Team-building and conflict resolution can be matched with the participant’s specific needs.

Guided Tours

Beyond The Big House™ 

Participants arrive at our 1850s farm and are led in a hands-on experience of life in Maryland's 19th century enslaved community. Activities include plantation-era tasks, interactions with animals, artifacts and tools, and how Black Marylanders thrived through resistance. Click to request this program

Foraging Freedom™ 

Learn how self-liberators made the harrowing journey from slavery to freedom, as we search for food, protection, direction and shelter along streams, forests and fields. Discover how enslaved Marylanders became adept survivalists by using their knowledge of the natural world to claim their liberty!  Click to request this program

Button Farm Almanac™ 

Join us for this behind-the-scenes tour of Button Farm, its history and its environs. Meet our interpreters and see how we recreate our immersive experiences on forty acres of Maryland farmland. Click to request this program

Cemetery Walk

Join us for this tour of the Button Farm burial ground; believed to be the final resting place of nearly a dozen unidentified enslaved people. Walk amongst the fieldstone markers, learn of African American burial traditions, and commune with the ancestors. Click to request this program

Self-Guided Tours 

Button Farm offers FREE Self-Guided QR Code tours beginning in June 2021. Just bring your smartphone and explore the farm. New tours are added seasonally and include close encounters with animals, quizzes and artifact identification, as well as scavenger hunt elements. Outdoor Adventure & Team Building

Button Farm has partnered with GoAdventure Sports to bring exciting new experiences to school, small group and corporate outdoor adventure seekers. Heritage Tours
