Maryland Emancipation Day 2025

 Join Button Farm as we celebrate our annual Maryland Emancipation Day Event in commemoration of the day in 1864 when Maryland changed its constitution to abolish slavery six months before the end of the Civil War. The program will feature speakers, self-guided tours of the farm’s museum garden and animal pens.  Snacks and cider provided!

Bee Hives Arrive 640

Bees might be the most famous pollinators and have many varieties. The bees at Button Farm were originally rescued in 2017 from the walls of the Loving Charity Hall, at the Warren Historic Site, near Poolesville, Maryland as it was undergoing restoration.

The bees were successfully removed and transferred to the farm thanks to beekeeper Jim Frazer and sons, of the Montgomery County Beekeepers Association, along with Joe Long of Honey Effects, and now pollinate the museum gardens. Jars of Joe Long’s honey is available at Button Farm’s market stand.
